What I do, I would consider art. I just want to make pretty things.
I was listening to a podcast, minding my own business and it hit me hard. Lauren, a respected bag maker in the small maker/ Inde community made a statement that she doesn't like to run sales etc. I totally GET it. She had her own points on this but mine is really that what I do, it is art. It is wearable art but none the less, art. I spend hours working on some of these things so when I have ran specials and sales it hurts. I WANT people to love my things enough to buy them, share them and more than that take a piece of my art with them.
All this to say, going in to the new year, I am going to make it my mission to price my items in a way that allows people to buy them and for me to not subscribe to the notion that I need to run a sale. I am going to remove sale from my vocabulary.
What does this mean? Customs will definitely cost a custom price. Designers choice and RTS will definitely have the perk of being priced like " I really wanted to do this and so I am giving you a price that reflects this"
I don't know friends, I just want to make pretty things. I appreciate you so much following this journey. It has and so many layers to it.
